A Lithuanian firm by the name of UAB Kilo Grupé launched the health brand Beyond Body in July 2020 with the slogan “A revolutionary route to wellness.”

The company’s staff of professionals, including Head of Nutrition Christine Ellis and CEO Lina Jaisate, appear to be highly credible. Therefore, you can rest easy knowing that Beyond Body is 100 percent real and definitely not a fraud.

Through social media channels like Instagram and TikTok, Beyond Body has recently attained extensive, global recognition. The isolating conditions of 2020, where many of us were left with extra free time to prioritize our health and exercise from home, contributed to their success.

Most likely, you came across this page because you, too, were a target of their advertising or saw someone influencer you follow to promote their lovely hardcover book.

Beyond Body claims itself as the “first totally individualized wellness book in the world,” helping you “achieve your healthy weight target and increase your well-being.”

How Does Beyond Body Work?

You are instructed to start by answering a quiz when I first arrived at the Beyond Body website.

When you have answered about 30 questions during the survey, which helps Beyond Body to tailor your book to the reader.

These questions, which took around 5 minutes to complete, were based on your physical traits, way of life, and health objectives.

  • What areas of your body do you want to try and improve? 
  • How many hours do you usually sleep?
  • What are your weight and height?
  • What is your body shape?
  • Do you work night shifts?
  • Do you consume alcohol?

  • Are you currently breastfeeding/pregnant?

From here, you are directed to a sales page where Beyond Body will get you to sign up and proceed with the purchase.

The Beyond Body Book Content

There’s no doubt about it – the Beyond Body book looks absolutely fantastic.

From the moment you first open it, you will find it easy to navigate and read.

The Beyond Body book is 282 pages long and had the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Chapter: YOU
  • Getting Started
  • Your Training Guide
  • Healthy Eating Essentials
  • Your 28-Day Meal Plan
  • Beyond 28 Days: Your Final Lessons
  • Your Cooking Cheat Sheet

Introduction

The Beyond Body book’s introduction will go through a few of the frequent misunderstandings individuals have about losing weight.

Additionally, they’ll show you how to correct some of the errors you may have done in the past. Only a few pages long, the introduction serves mostly as a setup and backdrop for the rest of the book.

Chapter: YOU

Next up, Beyond Body speaks about how they went about personalizing your plan, creating your book, and reiterating your current physical state for future reference (e.g. what do you currently weigh, what’s your current BMI, etc.).

They also speak a little bit about how you should manage your expectations and that although you can certainly improve the way your body looks and tones up, you can’t change your bone structure.

Finally, the YOU chapter highlights some of the psychological aspects there are to weight loss. For example, they talk about if you’re stressed out and anxious, you’re going to have a difficult time sticking to the plan.

Here’s some more of what’s discussed in this chapter:

  • Managing your expectations around your body shape
  • How to dress for your body shape
  • How to manage your stress as it can affect weight gain
  • How to use mindfulness as a stress reliever
  • Managing and maximizing your sleep

Getting Started

The YOU chapter, it’s mainly about mindset and educating you about what it takes to lose weight from a psychological point of view.

What we really liked is how Beyond Body has a focus on slimming down and becoming healthier, rather than being so caught up with the weight on the scales.

We also love how they have a focus on long-term weight loss through an ongoing change to your lifestyle, rather than following a ‘program’ or ‘diet’.

Here’s some of what’s discussed in this chapter:

  • Dealing with social pressure to eat and drink
  • How to track your weight loss progress
  • Difference between slimming down and losing weight

This was perhaps my favorite chapter of the whole book and believe it has some great information for people who have had trouble losing weight in the past.

Your Training Guide

Beyond Body provides you with a summary of some of the essential tips for exercising in your training manual.

After seeing screenshots of other individuals being prescribed particular exercises as part of Beyond Body, I was a little let down that I wasn’t given an exercise routine.

Instead of being provided with any explicit instructions, I was only given some general information.

Here’s some of what’s discussed in this chapter:

  • Warming up and cooling down before exercise
  • Expected soreness after working out
  • How to stay hydrated
  • How to breathe when training

They explore a wide range of topics, some of which, in my opinion, veer off the path of what you should know about exercising.

Personally, I only looked through a portion of it because I didn’t think it was all that important and already knew the information.

Some people new to fitness may find that the sheer amount of knowledge causes them to focus on too many topics that, while significant, aren’t essential when they first begin.

However, if you enjoy learning new things, many of you might find their thorough approach incredibly helpful.

Healthy Eating Essentials

The healthy eating essentials chapter contains useful information about how to prepare your kitchen and pantry for cooking healthily.

For many of us, takeaway food and microwaved meals are all we’ve ever known. As such, this chapter is incredible for beginners who haven’t ever really known how to prepare and cook their own healthy food.

Here’s some of what’s discussed in this chapter:

  • Common cooking mistakes to avoid
  • How to prepare your meals
  • Grocery shopping guide
  • Eating out tips
  • Food colors
  • Superfoods

At times, there is again some information that’s a little unnecessary if you’re mainly focused on weight loss rather than overall wellness.

For example, they speak about how it’s better to have your steak at room temperature rather than cold when cooking it, which in my opinion a ‘one percenter’ and really doesn’t matter if your goal is getting in shape.

However, this information may be useful if you’re an absolute beginner and keen to learn the basics.

Your 28-Day Meal Plan

The longest chapter of the book, Beyond Body starts by outlining the number of calories you’ll be eating on a daily basis for the 28-day program.

For me, this was 1500 – 1600 calories composed of approximately 45% carbs, 30% protein, and 25% fat.

Based on this daily target, Beyond Body outlines what you’ll be eating each day for the following meals:

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner
  • Snack 1
  • Snack 2

The remainder of the chapter follows this daily schedule.

Although the book may appear exceedingly simple and uncomplicated on the surface, this is far from the truth.

Practically speaking, it’s nearly impossible to buy all of these items and make them taste nice.

The Beyond Body team hasn’t really considered:

How expensive and unnecessary it is to buy a variety of ingredients only to utilize them once.

That a dish with a method and a list of healthy components is not one that anyone will like.

Beyond 28 Days: Your Final Lessons

This chapter of the book, Beyond Body discusses some more helpful, yet general advice, such as:

  • How to color your plate 
  • The importance of homemade food
  • Managing your alcohol consumption
  • How to get into good sleep habits

Your Cooking Cheat Sheet

In the final chapter of Beyond Body, you’ll learn about:

  • How to get more proficient at cooking your own meals
  • Healthy dressings and seasonings
  • How to measure your food correctly 

Does Beyond Body Work?

In order to lose weight, you need to be in a caloric deficit.

Period

This means that on a daily or weekly basis, you need to be consuming (eating) fewer calories than you are burning. This is so for all humans.

There are two ways to achieve a caloric deficit:

  1. Moving your body more to burn more calories
  2. Eating less food to consume fewer calories

Beyond Body does correctly calculate how many calories you’ll need to eat to be in a caloric deficit.

And they also advocate for you to move more in their exercise section.

So, with this in mind, does Beyond Body actually work?

And is it actually going to help you lose weight?

If you adhere to the ingredient list and recommended portion levels, the Beyond Body program can help you lose weight. But because of the way they’ve set up your daily meals, it’s really expensive and difficult to stick to.

Instead of tasty dishes you’ll truly enjoy and want to follow, the recipes they offer resemble healthy ingredient lists.

Therefore, I don’t think that Beyond Body will be a particularly successful weight-loss program for the majority of people.

Focus on Lifestyle Change

When it comes to weight loss, the most common mistake made by people is believing that they must adhere to a program or diet for a set amount of time in order to see results.

When in fact it takes a lot of time and effort to change who you are and your everyday routine.

We think Beyond Body does a fantastic job in this area.

The focus is on altering who you are rather than just paying attention to the weight on the scales, and they discuss this throughout the book.

Focus on Education

If you’re extremely new to fitness and weight loss, you may find a lot of the extra information useful as it paints a solid picture of healthy living.

For example, you’ll learn little tips and tricks like:

  • Don’t use too much dressing on your salad
  • How and why you should try to keep your plate colorful
  • Don’t drink your calories
  • And much more

This focus on education may be very well received by absolute beginners. But for others, it may just seem like filler.

Beyond Body Cons

Isn’t Dynamic

A printed book’s (physical or digital) main drawback is that it doesn’t adapt to your changing needs.

Your daily calorie consumption will fluctuate as you lose weight. A static book like Beyond Body won’t take this into consideration.

There are only a certain number of recipes in the book as well, so you’ll either have to find another product once you’re done with this one or accept it.

Very Basic Personalisation

Many people think their bodies are unique. They think that in order to genuinely see results and lose weight, they require something special and customized.

When the opposite is actually true.

In the end, weight loss is the same for 99% of the population.

You must be calorie-deficient.

In this way, personalization costs a lot when it can be done for free anyplace on the internet, such as this calculator from Legion Athletics.

The customization is also at times a little awkward and sloppy. For instance, Beyond Body would essentially use the same recipes and simply instruct you to use “lactose-free” milk, as opposed to providing you with customized recipes depending on your nutritional needs.

A Lot of Fluff

I thought Beyond Body was a touch too flowery for someone who just loves to get right to the point.

I think it has a lot of unnecessary material that is probably only included to fill up the pages and give the impression that you got a good price.

I understand that Beyond Body markets itself as a wellness publication. But I think the bulk of buyers would have done so out of a desire to slim down.

Therefore, spending many pages discussing mindfulness and meditation diverts attention away from the real weight-loss levers.

Impractical Nutrition

Consider purchasing a 500ml tub of yogurt simply to consume it for a single meal.

Alternatively, buy a punnet of strawberries and only use a handful of them. Such a waste of money and food. That’s what Beyond Body instructs you to do.

Instead of having carefully considered, different recipes that make use of the same ingredients. Beyond Body uses a haphazard list of several “healthy” substances that are blended together, leaving you with extra ingredients you won’t utilize.

And they don’t even give you a proper method to follow.

In our opinion Beyond Body is absolutely not worth the hefty price tag of $39.99. The personalization is very basic, the recipes are extremely impractical and there’s a lot of fluff to fill out the pages.
